iPhoneDevCamp – Florida is going to happen!!!

June 12, 2009

http://www.iphonedevcampfl.org

We are thrilled to announce that MOSI will sponsor and host the Inaugural iPhoneDevCamp – Florida 2009.
iPhoneDevCamp was formed just a week after the launch of the original iPhone device and now meets annually to promote the work of developers and designers for iPhone and iPod touch. This year iPhoneDevCamp 3 will be hosted at Yahoo!‘s Sunnyvale, CA campus.

iPhoneDevCamp – Florida will run simultaneously with iPhoneDevCamp 3 as one of 19 simultaneous Satellite events to connect developers around the world.

MOSI, Tampa, FL July 31 – August 2, 2009 Cover Charge: $99

All fees go toward the production of the event. iPhoneDevCamp – Florida is a not-for-profit organization, and MOSI is contributing the space, and event support throughout the weekend. We’ve been working behind the scenes with MOSI for weeks, to make sure there is enough space, power, and networking for approximately 200 participants.
July 31, 1009 (Friday) – 6PM – 10PM
August 1, 2009 (Saturday) – 9AM – 9PM
August 2, 2009 (Sunday) – 9AM – 6PM
We’re actively looking for other sponsors to help make the Inaugural iPhoneDevCamp – Florida a huge success.
We offer sponsor tier levels, as well as, a variety of other sponsorship opportunities. As a BarCamp-style event, 100% of sponsor dollars go to the event production. This is a not-for-profit event (the organizers and volunteers do not get paid).

Please email Vivian T. Fox, vfox@mobilesoftcorp.com, for additional details.

Learning to program for the Macintosh and iPhone

May 25, 2009

In my re-education for programming (I took a 10 year break more or less) I have looked at many sources for programming related to the Macintosh. I wanted to stay specific because I love the Mac and wanted to program just for that platform.

Here are my fave sources that I think everyone interested should check out.

Learn C on the Macintosh – Dave Mark
Link
This is a GREAT beginners book that assumes one thing. You know how to use a Macintosh. That is it! It teaches you the basics of C programming and the ways of Developer tools, etc. It is easy reading and simple to follow along.

Programming in Objective-C 2.0 – Steven Kochan
Link
I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! it is awesome. It assumes no previous experience in programming and even has a forum on his website to discuss the book with HIM and has examples and other information related to the book itself.

Learn Objective-C on the Macintosh – Mark Dalrymple, Scott Knaster
Link
Awesome book that is a continuation of “Learn C on the Macintosh”
Same theme as the first book, but again is great order and a clean read.

Beginning iPhone Development – Dave Mark and Jeff Lamarche
Great for the beginning iPhone programmer and it even documents getting an ADC membership and submissions, etc. MO THER BOOK IS AS AWESOME for iPhone.
Link
and last but certainly NOT least is the Hillegass Book

Read these, reference these, know these….

OK, I have made a decision…I wanna be a Microsoft MVP!!!

May 5, 2009

My goal in the next calendar year is to become a Microsoft MVP for Macintosh!!! Yes I said it…
I work for a dear partner of Microsoft (Citrix) and I think it is the right thing to try. PLUS I have mad crazy envy for the all of the MVP’s I know here thru Citrix :-) In the future, you are going to see some of my knowledge about Microsoft in relation to the Macintosh. I have a brain full of it, so why not share with the world and get some kudo love for it :-)

I will be focusing on ALL aspects of Macintosh and Microsoft such as:
Active Directory and Macintosh
Microsoft RDP and Macintosh
Microsoft Office and Macintosh
Microsoft Virtualized on a Macintosh
Application Virtualization and Macintosh

and much much more :-) Stay Tuned

Back to Livin’ La Vida X Code

April 10, 2009

I finally have a chance at work to get to do more programming. I am happy about it. If I do not do something in awhile (coding) I loose some of it, so I am spending the weekend in X Code so I can start some POC’s Monday. Of course, I am working all weekend making changes to stuff for a demo site at work also :-)

My AWESOME wife likes to see me in this mode because she knows it makes me all warm and fuzzy. She actually was in IB this week for her company. It makes me feel like a proud hubby to see her getting into the programming part. I think she and her business partner are gonna dig the X Code life :-)

So as I brush up on my skillz, I will also be reading like a med student (as always) and catching up on my RSS reads :-)

Somewhere in there we are going to observe an Earth Hour. We have made this a little weekly thing where we just “unplug” for an hour or two. We even turn off our phones for the time also :-)

Stanford CS193P on iTunes U!!!!

April 5, 2009

The views expressed here are mine alone and have not been authorized by, and do not necessarily reflect the views of, Citrix

So I admit it, I am pretty much a Objective-C hack! I am fully self taught and I page my way thru the docs and find what I need or to get an idea about what I need to do :-) I think everyone is at this point because there are really no classes on this language. there are C classes, but it is really JUST NOT THE SAME. Stanford is offering an iPhone programming course on iTunes U for FREE!!! So not I am going to take this course and show that even a guy like me can do this:-)

I am a constant learner so this is exciting to have a free tool like this taught by Apple employees that work on this stuff everyday!!!! HOW AWESOME IS THAT?!?!?!?

The possibilities of the educational future are endless if Universities would leverage iTunes U for the online learning instead of just a asynchronous forum on a web page. Just think of the courses they could offer!!!! Or if someone wanted to audit a class, then there it is….no class seat and resource to take up, just another download!!! Jobs got his education by “dropping in”, why can’t we???

I have to do this :-) Now that you all know about my new position…

April 3, 2009

This blog will be my personal blog. For my professional blog, please go to the AWESOME Citrix Community site

This blog is not associated with my job or the AWESOME company I work for.

The views expressed here are mine alone and have not been authorized by, and do not necessarily reflect the views of, Citrix.

Yes I may talk about Citrix sometimes, but please refer to the pervious statement.

feel free to peruse THIS SITE… this one is public…

OK?, that said…

I a having an AWESOME time at work these days. I have truly found my niche :-) The team I work with is really world-class and I am excited to be on the team and be able to share ideas and implement them. This sounds funny and girly, but I feel like I have finally emerged from a cocoon of sorts. In the first week of my new position, I feel like I have actually made a contribution to the team dynamic and hit the ground running. Usually people have the “ramp up” phase that takes awhile, but as I learn all of the rules, tips, and tricks I can still function.

I have a true partner in crime on this team also. He and I have collaborated on past secret projects in the past, but now we can actually work together and do some real innovation we keep talking about :-) This is a very exciting time for technology and myself. In the next year I plan on actually inventing something that is going to change the world and this is the proper place to do that. This group has been referred to as the “Mad Scientists” and I think that means I AM HOME!!!!

Of course there are some haters, but I am going forward. To all the friends and family that believed in me and supported my geeky awesomeness, THANK YOU!!!!

To all of the people who did not believe in me and have made things difficult(and possibly still wish to), THANK YOU!!! You have made this journey sweeter now I am here!!!

Future Review : Things by Cultured Code

March 13, 2009

I just received a test copy of Things by Cultured Code. I am a guy who works off of MANY lists. I have them for different projects, personal items, and a daily list. So, when the AWESOME people at Cultured Code let me review Things, I jumped on it like a starving dog in a KFC!

If you are in to the Getting Things Done method (GTD) of working, then this application will save you some time and energy. It is centralized, easy to use, and really great looking! I did not have to read a manual so far and I like the fact I can tag items and search based on the tags. More on this review later when I give an deeper dig into the application.

Cultured Code is an Indie developer for Macintosh, so I always try to find the most awesome applications to review from that community.

My goal in these reviews is to give real world feedback and try to move Indie developers into a bigger market via word-of-mouth.

Blogo: So Far…So Good

February 28, 2009

I though I would give a preliminary “So Far” review of Blogo by BrainJuice. Blogo is an AWESOME little application that one can use to add entries, edit, and organize their blogs and micro-blogs. It has quickly become one of my fave apps on my MacBook Pro. It is made with RubyCocoa, so I am already a fan, but the functionality is amazing for a blog editor. I have all of my blogs PLUS twitter working with it in no time. The guys over at BrainJuice have been AWESOME with my feedback, questions, and such. WHen I review an app, I also ask much about the people behind it too :-) I will be writing a more detailed report on the application soon, but I just wanted people to know that so far I am having an excellent time using this application. I even added a badge to the website.
